The iconic painting depicts the port of Le Havre in the northwest of France, Claude Monet’s hometown, at sunrise. The painting is almost entirely of color and light, emphasizing the breaking sunlight and its undulating reflections, perfectly capturing the morning light in evanescent detail with his palette of gray, blue and orange.
